Philosophy

Our design philosophy focuses on process. This approach is, rigorous, analytical and practical starting with the belief that buildings should be fun and comfortable spaces. The Studio delivers architecture with a real identity, alongside consistently high quality craftsmanship. Scaled physical models are key to our early design stages and ideas of investigating and researching for new architectural alternatives.

The Studio aims to create architecture that is responsive to the client needs, without necessarily altering any natural conditions of site or its context. We work intensively and with motivation to research new technologies and establishing practical solutions at affordable levels. Our interest lies in the challenge to create a proposal for our clients that remains constant to the initial brief.

Studio Idealyc's first commission was public project set in historic context, 'The Hut' at Spa Fields in Clerkenwell. It was Highly Commended as the Best Community based Planning Initiative at the London Planning Awards 2007. The building is situated between Lubetkin's Grade I listed Finsbury Health Centre and the Grade II listed Holy Redeemer Church in Exmouth Market, designed by late XIX Century architect John Dando Sedding. Standing nine meters tall and enveloping the existing youth club facility and public toilet on site, the triangular cooper clad, timber framed, structure was constructed with a budget of £270.000. In 2009 the European Copper Association voted 'The Hut' as a worthy example of good copper construction.
